What is a Masquerade Ball?
MASQUERADE: To appear or go about in disguise; to pass oneself off under a false character. Hence Masquerader!
The Masquerade Ball became common throughout mainland Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries. Although it is believed the first Masquerade Ball took place in Italy in the 15th Century Renaissance.
A Masquerade Ball (or bal masque) an event which the participants attend in costume wearing a mask. The masked guests were supposedly dressed so to be unidentifiable. This would create a type of game to see if each others identities could be guessed. This added a humorous twist to many masques and created a more enjoyable version to a typical ball.
The picturesque quality of the Masquerade Ball has made it a favourite with many of its followers travelling worldwide to enjoy the various twists of each continent.
